Anthropogenic Horizon will be screened tonight at Konzerthaus Dortmund in Germany, as part of a concert featuring composer and conductor Lera Auerbach‘s Fourth Symphony, ARCTICA. Created in collaboration with Greenlandic elders, the symphony and its accompanying program explore the climate crisis, the consequences of human decisions, and humanity’s relationship with the Earth.
Anthropogenic Horizon will be presented in its entirety as an independent visual work, positioned between Alexander Mosolov’s Iron Foundry and Charles Ives’s The Unanswered Question.
Juxtaposing nuclear testing with the calving of glaciers, Anthropogenic Horizon offers a meditation on the relationship between human industrial activity, environmental transformation, and the planetary consequences of human action.
The program will also feature Greenlandic performer H. H. Suersaq, who lives on Disko Island, bringing an additional cultural and geographic connection to the landscapes and environmental concerns explored throughout the evening.
